Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) Program

Many students come to ´ºÉ«µ¼º½ Tech already having earned college credit from other institutions. Others have demonstrated their mastery of skills through years of military service, on-the-job experience, standardized tests and more. You’ve worked hard to gain that knowledge, so we do everything possible to count those credits toward your ´ºÉ«µ¼º½ Tech degree, diploma or certificate through our Prior Learning Assessment Program. Goals for ´ºÉ«µ¼º½’s PLA Program:

• Reduce completion times and improve graduation rates
• Reduce student costs
• Value student experiences
• Recognize learning outside the traditional classroom
• Reduce duplication of courses

Prior Learning Assessment Credit

PLA is not “giving away credit” based on a cursory examination of a student’s resume. PLA involves evaluation of the learning that a student has and determining the equivalence of that learning to learning outcomes in college coursework. The amount of credit students can earn for their prior learning can be determined through several different types of assessments.
